I clearly remember what my last German teacher said in the last year, before "finishing" school:
"You write like a 4th-grade student. You have good ideas and content, but your mind races ahead of your text."
She was right.
Many fast ADHD-Thinkers struggle with structure without a system.
Especially not out of the box and without years of "training".
So, I came up with my own framework for clearer writing:
→ "The Clarity Framework."
The Clarity Framework helps you explain ideas and concepts clearly and coherently so readers can follow along.
Many people, myself included, just like to write and brain-dump our thoughts on "paper", which is fun, addictive and can lead to interesting ideas while writing.
But when explaining actionable ideas, concepts, or frameworks like this one, it makes sense to use a proven writing structure so the main message is as clear as possible for the reader, without confusion.
In preparation for this newsletter, I analyzed various creator newsletters to improve my writing.
Interestingly, Katelyn Bourgoin, who has over 63,000 newsletter subscribers (or even James Clear), uses a close-related framework.
The primary difference with Katelyn was a stronger hook.
Here's the exact framework for your own writing:
"Use the bolded as the start of your writing and thinking process."
- (Story-)Hook: Start with a strong hook. Something relatable, paradoxical, or emotional to capture viewers' attention.
- The main idea is…: What is the main idea? Make it clear, simple and impactful.
- What it is…: What is it? Explain in short, simple terms; one line is usually enough.
- Why it matters…: Why does it matter? What might be the consequence of their inaction? Provide a proven example. (Mine with Katelyn Bourgoin)
- What to do with it…: What's the actionable takeaway? How can the reader apply this to themselves? Be specific and practical.
- One sentence compression…: Provide a short punchy and memorable one sentence (if possible) at the end.
Final note:
To make your writing impactful to others, write with intention and lead with clarity.
Thanks for reading.
