AI is coming for your job.
And you should be happy about it.
The future of work is play. - Dan Koe
In my experience, most people don't enjoy their work.
When I talk with friends or see the majority of people and their habits, it's clear that most of them are trying to fill a void in themselves.
Part of this might be their missing counterpart or "soulmate", but I strongly suspect that the majority of people's unhappiness stems from these 8 hours of work, 5 times a week.
- They need the weekend.
- They need the alcohol.
- They need the stimulation.
Because they need to escape their day-to-day lives. Either daily or weekly.
I mean, who judges them?
- They work for the purpose and mission of another individual.
- They sit inside all day and don't get any sun or vitamin D.
- They perform tasks that are not challenging enough to fit the skill-to-challenge ratio. (flow)
I am getting depressed as well, if my work is so dull that I stay inside my head and need to procrastinate.
I just recently experienced it again.
I got a project from a friend, helping him with his agency business.
I worked on this project after completing my business tasks, as I still had plenty of time available each day.
The first week was fine; I was super busy all day and probably worked 10 hours a day.
But weeks 2 and 3 slowly become dragging.
The problem was that I lost autonomy.
Autonomy on when to work, what to work on and how to spend my time.
I didn't want to sit in front of a screen all day.
The pain was not worth the cost.
I thankfully signed off.
Front-Loading Pain.
The 20s are there to be the most painful decade of your life.
You might have lost your first long-term relationship because people change over time, and you and your partner no longer shared the same values or interests. The "spark" may have simply faded, and you both went your separate ways.
Perhaps you didn't earn much money and were eating noodles with sauce in university all day, while working on the side just to pay rent.
Or you might have lost a close family member, as I have.
However, you need to let go before life flows smoothly.
You need to accept that your 20s should have been, or at least were, the most difficult and painful time of your life.
It is part of the process.
You are front-loading pain to enjoy life.
Happiness does not stem from pleasure; it stems from the work before the reward, not reward without action.
You need to discover yourself.
The purpose of your soul and the discovery of your individual self.
In order to find life's greater joy.
Life really starts at 30.
- When you discover yourself.
- When you finally make money to live the life you imagined.
- When you date the love of your life, or perhaps you're already married.
- When you start thinking about kids.
All the "partners", businesses, injuries and failures you encountered in your 20s are just preparation.
A divine guidance plan to strengthen your soul and become the strong leader and parent you should become.
Your 20s should not be wasted consuming alcohol, stimulants or "enjoying" life, with pleasurable pursuits.
Self-love is about taking care of your mind, body, and soul, not getting lost in pleasurable actions.
These "pleasurable" pursuits just distance you from happiness. And to be honest, they were developed in the last 20 years, and since then, people have been the most depressed. "Pleasure" became a lifestyle often showcased online by "influencers".
Sorry to say that, but:
Most influencers have nothing to say and only something to show.
You get my point here, right?
Just think, 20 years ago, people didn't have much processed food. They bought food at the local market and cooked it at home with their family, spending quality time.
The preparation of food in the kitchen and then consuming it later on triggers dopamine.
You put in the work to get the reward.
Now people order pizza and Coca-Cola, while swiping for "potential partners" on dating apps.
Just think about our ancestors:
They hunt on an empty stomach. Pure clarity and attention. They make the shot. They lift the heavy animal on their shoulder. Get back to their cave, to their wife and kids. They cook it on self-made fire, made of flint and steel. They consume it together as the glory of the day.
Now, the majority of men consume sugar before even lifting a finger.
Reward should always come last.
The Importance of Rest and 4 Hours of Work.
The paradox of productivity is the less you work, the higher quality your work is. - Dan Koe
Many highly creative and productive historical figures (scientists, writers, artists) often engaged in their most demanding, focused work for only about 4-5 hours a day, followed by significant periods of rest.
Work and rest are partners. They are two sides of the same coin, mutually reinforcing.
To sustain high-quality work performance, it is essential to understand the importance of both qualitative and active rest for work.
The book: "Rest: why you get more done when you work less" - by Alex Soojung-Kim Pang
Explains the concepts of Rest:
- Morning Routines: Consistency deloads the mind.
- Walks: Great for clearing the mind, gaining new perspectives and stimulating creative insights
- Naps: Short strategic naps can dramatically improve alertness, memory and even trigger new ideas.
- Strategic Stopping: Ending work at a high peak to redirect energy into the next activity or task.
- Sleep: The brain actively consolidates memories, processes experiences, repairs cells, and clears toxins.
- Recovery: Active psychological detachment from work through activities high in relaxation, control, and mastery experiences.
- Sabbaticals: Periods away from regular work, often involving travel or focused personal projects, which can lead to profound personal and professional renewal, new insights, and even career-altering breakthroughs.
- Deep play: Engaging in challenging, mentally absorbing hobbies or sports that offer similar satisfactions to work but in a different context.
Video Games (Deep Play):
Elon Musk mentioned it, and I can highly agree. He said that high-action or immersive video games are great for recovery, where the game is so fast-paced that all your attention is focused on the video game. The reason for this is that the more flow experiences (pure focus) you create, shifting from one stage to another, the more you relax, because you don't think. Connecting both deep play and active recovery. (in moderate amounts)
The key here is to detach from your thoughts and immerse yourself in the moment. Whatever brings you into the moment, away from your thoughts, is beneficial for work and recovery. This can be hiking, sports, playing the guitar, or even playing video games or watching a movie. As long as it fully absorbs your mind.
Sport or activities outside are mostly more stimulating, due to the sheer fact of the sun, nature and real-life challenges.
Things like movies or video games are less of a "natural challenge with heightened alertness," similar to your work.
But it can be beneficial in moderate amounts.
A real-life example from me:
A few months ago I have been running a small hill in the forest in Germany, encountering a deer. My mind immediately sharpened, and I had pure alertness, like a hunter following his prey. It was a cohesive experience, where all the senses were actively stimulated during the outdoor activity.
Video games, movies or even work can create a similar "fake" urgency, triggering our instincts.
If we strategically incorporate rest and understand the science behind it, we can create an immersive flow experience every single day, leading to higher alertness, satisfaction, and enjoyment in life.
To perform at 100%, you need to recover 100%.
100% of productivity can only be achieved by working 4 hours. (range between 3-5 hours)
If you extend above 4-5 hours, you don't get enough rest to perform 100% the next day.
My high flow routine looks like this, after years of testing and iterating:
- 6-7:30 am: Read
- 7:30-12:30 am: Work (max. 5 hours)
- Engage with the sun and ideally train outside.
- Socialize during the day. Train. Hike. Gardening. Bike. Tennis. Walk → Together.
- Finish eating by 6 pm at the latest.
- Spend time with your loved one(s).
- Until 10 pm, and go to bed.
- Repeat.
Test and iterate this for yourself; we are all different, not just in our physical bodies, but also in our minds, which influence the body. The human body is measurable; the human mind is not measurable.
I am not as interested in travelling as I used to be, because I travel now in my mind.
AI Is the Operator, and Creativity Is the Leader.
AI can regurgitate any idea, but it can't refract it through its non-existent lived philosophy toward a goal it consciously chose. - Dan Koe
With the leverage of the internet and with the help of AI, solo founders can build the first billion-dollar solo business.
AI is the operator, and you are the creative leader.
To achieve that, there are three fundamental things you need to learn.
1) Clarity.
Being clear about what you want and having a precise mental image of the end goal. The clearer the mental image is, the faster you can execute it or the better you can describe it.
2) Creativity
Creativity is not only how well someone paints or how they take photos. It's also how they solve problems. Being creative is the ultimate form of problem-solving, as it allows you to see things from different angles, think outside the box, and create something entirely new (innovation).
The more creative you are, the clearer your mental image is, increasing your clarity of the sheer fact that you can imagine it.
3) Writing
To create high-quality prompts or engage with AI, you need to understand or be comfortable with writing. Writing creates clarity, but it also helps you articulate your thoughts and share your vision more effectively. It also enhances your communication, which aids in delegating tasks effectively.
Writing is the fundamental skill.
Everyone who doesn't write loses qualitative thoughts and is less of a great thinker than they could have been. Overall, they lose other people because they seem less competent, organized or structured.
I only gained clarity through writing. Writing helps to understand yourself better and create clarity out of chaos. It restructures your mind and enhances your ability to absorb and process information.
Writing is not an option if you want to become successful in any domain of your life.
To master life, you need to master health, wealth and relationships. And writing improves all three.
- You master your mental well-being, gain clarity, discover purpose and see patterns you haven't seen before.
- You master wealth by improving your thinking and articulation, which enables people to see you as more competent and trustworthy.
- You master relationships, because you become more reflective, mindful and attentive. (What probably every woman wishes from their partner, because that's where most men fall short, is the emotional depth of the masculine.)
The future of work is the creativity, philosophy and taste of a human individual.
AI is only the operator, the engine, behind the vision of the creator.
